Chin Augmentation

Chin augmentation is a cosmetic surgical procedure aimed at enhancing the size, shape, and projection of the chin to improve facial balance and harmony. This procedure is commonly sought by individuals who have a weak or recessed chin, which may make other facial features appear disproportionate or unbalanced.

  • Consultation: The process typically begins with a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon. During this consultation, the surgeon will evaluate the patient's facial anatomy, discuss their goals and expectations, and recommend the most appropriate treatment plan based on their unique needs.
  • Preparation: Before the surgery, the patient will receive instructions on how to prepare, which may include adjustments to diet, medications, and lifestyle habits. Patients may also be asked to quit smoking, as smoking can interfere with the healing process.
  • Anesthesia: Chin augmentation surgery is typically performed under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia, depending on the extent of the procedure and the patient's preferences.
  • Incision: The surgeon will make incisions either inside the mouth (intraoral approach) or under the chin (submental approach), depending on the specific technique and the patient's anatomy. The incisions are strategically placed to minimize visible scarring.
  • Implant Placement: If using implants, the surgeon will carefully insert the implant through the incision and position it over the chin bone. The implant is secured in place, and the incisions are closed with sutures.
  • Bone Surgery (Osteotomy): In some cases, particularly when there are underlying structural issues with the chin bone, the surgeon may perform bone surgery to reshape or reposition the chin bone. This may involve cutting and repositioning the bone or adding bone grafts to augment the chin.
