Tendon Cut Injuries

Tendon injuries occur when the tough bands of tissue that connect muscles to bones are torn or otherwise damaged. Tendon cut injuries, specifically, refer to instances where a tendon is partially or completely severed by a sharp object or trauma. These injuries can vary widely in severity, from minor cuts to complete lacerations that completely sever the tendon.

Tendon cut injuries can occur in various parts of the body, including the hands, arms, legs, and feet, depending on the location of the trauma. Common causes of tendon cut injuries include:

  • Sharp objects: Accidental cuts from knives, broken glass, or other sharp objects are a common cause of tendon lacerations.
  • Accidents: Traumatic injuries, such as those sustained in car accidents or falls, can result in tendon lacerations due to impact with hard surfaces or objects.
  • Surgical procedures: Tendon injuries can also occur during surgical procedures, particularly those involving the hands, feet, or other areas where tendons are close to the surface.

Symptoms of tendon cut injuries may include:

  • Pain, especially with movement of the affected area
  • Swelling and bruising
  • Difficulty moving the affected joint or limb
  • Visible laceration or wound over the tendon
  • Inability to fully extend or flex the affected joint
