Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty, commonly referred to as a "nose job," is a surgical procedure aimed at reshaping and enhancing the appearance of the nose. Rhinoplasty can also address functional issues such as breathing difficulties caused by structural abnormalities of the nasal passages. It is one of the most popular cosmetic surgeries performed worldwide and can have a significant impact on a person's facial aesthetics and self-confidence.

Consultation and Evaluation:

  • Before undergoing rhinoplasty surgery, patients typically have a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon or otolaryngologist (ENT) to discuss their goals, concerns, and medical history.
  • The surgeon will perform a thorough evaluation of the nose, facial features, and nasal airway to assess factors such as nasal shape, size, symmetry, nasal tip projection, bridge height, and overall facial harmony.
  • Diagnostic tests, such as nasal endoscopy, nasal airflow studies, or imaging studies (e.g., CT scan), may be performed to evaluate nasal anatomy and function.

Surgical Techniques:

  • Rhinoplasty can be performed using either an open or closed approach, depending on the complexity of the procedure and the surgeon's preference.
  • Open rhinoplasty: In this technique, an incision is made across the columella (the narrow strip of tissue between the nostrils), allowing the surgeon to lift the nasal skin and access the underlying nasal structures with greater visibility and precision.
  • Closed rhinoplasty: In this technique, all incisions are made inside the nostrils, resulting in no visible external scars. The surgeon works through these internal incisions to reshape the nasal cartilage and bone.
  • Surgical goals may include reducing or increasing the size of the nose, refining the nasal tip, straightening a crooked nose, narrowing the nostrils, correcting a nasal hump or bump, or improving nasal symmetry.
