Tongue Tie Release

Tongue tie release, also known as frenotomy or frenuloplasty, is a surgical procedure performed to correct ankyloglossia, a condition where the lingual frenulum (the band of tissue that connects the underside of the tongue to the floor of the mouth) is unusually short or tight. This can restrict the movement of the tongue and interfere with normal tongue function, including breastfeeding, swallowing, speech, and oral hygiene.

  • Pre-operative Evaluation: Before the procedure, the patient undergoes a thorough evaluation by a healthcare provider, typically a pediatrician, otolaryngologist (ENT), or oral surgeon. The evaluation may include a physical examination of the tongue and oral cavity to assess the extent of the tongue tie and its impact on function.
  • Surgical Procedure: Tongue tie release is usually performed as an outpatient procedure and can be done with or without anesthesia, depending on the age of the patient and the preference of the healthcare provider.
