Mandible and Zygoma Fracture

Mandible Fracture

A mandible fracture refers to a break in the lower jawbone, which is also known as the mandible. The mandible plays a crucial role in chewing, speaking, and facial symmetry. A fracture in this bone can occur due to various reasons such as trauma, accidents, assaults, or certain medical conditions.

Common symptoms of a mandible fracture include:

  • Pain and tenderness around the jawbone.
  • Swelling and bruising.
  • Difficulty or pain while chewing or biting.
  • Misalignment of the teeth or jaw.
  • Numbness or tingling sensation in the lower lip or chin area.

Zygoma Fracture

A zygoma fracture, also known as a cheekbone fracture, involves a break in the zygomatic bone, which forms the prominence of the cheek. Like mandible fractures, zygoma fractures often result from trauma, such as a direct blow to the face.

Symptoms of a zygoma fracture may include:

  • Pain and tenderness over the cheekbone.
  • Swelling and bruising around the eye and cheek.
  • Difficulty opening or closing the eye.
  • Numbness in the cheek or upper lip.
