Tummy Tuck

A tummy tuck, medically known as abdominoplasty, is a surgical procedure aimed at removing excess skin and fat from the abdominal area while also tightening the abdominal muscles. This procedure is often sought by individuals who have loose or sagging skin and weakened muscles in the abdomen, typically as a result of significant weight loss, pregnancy, or aging.

  • Consultation: The process begins with a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon. During this consultation, the surgeon will assess the patient's medical history, physical health, and aesthetic goals. They will also evaluate the patient's abdominal area to determine if they are a suitable candidate for the procedure.
  • Preparation: Before the surgery, the patient will receive instructions on how to prepare, which may include adjustments to diet, medications, and lifestyle habits. Patients may also be asked to quit smoking, as smoking can interfere with the healing process.
  • Anesthesia: Tummy tuck surgery is typically performed under general anesthesia to ensure the patient's comfort and safety throughout the procedure.
  • Incision: The surgeon will make an incision across the lower abdomen, typically from hip to hip, just above the pubic area. The length and shape of the incision may vary depending on the extent of correction needed and the specific technique used.
  • Removal of excess skin and fat: The surgeon will then carefully remove excess skin and fat from the abdominal area. In some cases, liposuction may also be used to remove additional fat deposits and improve contouring.
  • Muscle repair: After removing excess skin and fat, the surgeon may tighten the abdominal muscles by suturing them together in a more firm and toned position. This step can help create a flatter and more sculpted abdominal profile.
  • Skin repositioning: Once the desired contour has been achieved, the surgeon will reposition the remaining skin and close the incisions with sutures.
