Mini Abdominoplasty & Tummy Tuck

Mini abdominoplasty, also known as a mini tummy tuck, and full abdominoplasty, commonly referred to as a tummy tuck, are surgical procedures aimed at improving the appearance of the abdomen by removing excess skin and fat and tightening the abdominal muscles. While both procedures target the abdominal area, they differ in their extent of tissue removal and muscle tightening.

Mini Abdominoplasty (Mini Tummy Tuck):

  • Mini abdominoplasty is a less extensive procedure compared to a full abdominoplasty and is typically recommended for patients with mild to moderate excess skin and fat in the lower abdomen.
  • During a mini abdominoplasty, a smaller incision is made just above the pubic area, similar to a C-section scar, allowing for access to the lower abdomen.
  • Excess skin and fat are removed from the lower abdomen, and the abdominal muscles may be tightened if necessary, focusing primarily on the area below the belly button.
  • The belly button usually remains in its original position, and the upper abdomen is not addressed in a mini abdominoplasty.
  • Mini abdominoplasty is often associated with a shorter recovery time and less scarring compared to a full abdominoplasty.

Full Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck):

  • Full abdominoplasty is a more comprehensive procedure designed to address excess skin and fat in both the upper and lower abdomen, as well as tightening of the abdominal muscles.
  • During a full abdominoplasty, a longer incision is made across the lower abdomen, typically from hip bone to hip bone, allowing for greater access to the abdominal tissues.
  • Excess skin and fat are removed from the entire abdominal area, including both the upper and lower abdomen.
  • The abdominal muscles are tightened using internal sutures to create a flatter and more toned abdominal contour.
  • In some cases, the position of the belly button may be adjusted to maintain a natural appearance.
